Different Ways to Look At Your Problems

In this world you will have trouble. But take heart. I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
In the above scripture Jesus warned us that as long as we live, we will encounter problems. His brother, James advised us to count it all joy when we have problems. (James 1:2) What were they thinking? Who wants problems? Who can rejoice over a problem? How can we see problems as steppingstones instead of stumbling blocks? How in the world can having problems be a good thing?

There is a purpose behind every problem. God uses our uncomfortable circumstances to develop our character. Would Joseph have been mature enough to be second in command of Egypt unless he had experienced problems? No! God had a purpose for Joseph's life that included problems as recorded in Genesis 37-50.

Problems come to prevent greater problems. If this is hard to believe, ask your auto mechanic. He will tell you that if you don't get a minor problem fixed in your car, you will have major problems later.

Problems come to test your faith. Problems can either make you strong under pressure or force you to be crushed. Your problem will either make you better or bitter. It will either make you or break you. So when you have a problem, see it as a transition to another phase in your spiritual development.

Problems come to keep hope alive. There is no need to hope for something if you already have it. When things are going great, you tend not to expect a miracle. However, when you have a problem you are in the right position for a miracle. Look for stars to shine brighter in the darkness.

Got a problem? Begin looking at it a different way. Realize that God doesn't allow problems into your life just to make you miserable. Instead, He allows you to have problems to build your character so that you may endure greater problems and help others to endure theirs.

No matter what problem you are facing today, remember when you are in the furnace, God keeps His eye on the clock and His hand on the thermostat. He will not let the problem stay in your life one moment longer than is necessary for His purpose to be fulfilled.
